Successful completion of the SEO Precertification Soils Course (for SEO Candidates) IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED prior to attending the Pre-Certification Academy. Until you have passed the Soils Course, you won’t be able to sit for the SEO exam and will be putting yourself at a disadvantage.
The Sewage Enforcement Officer (SEO) Precertification Academy is broken up into two separate phases:
PHASE 1: Self-Study Orientation Course – This is roughly 8-10 hours of self-guided study that you complete at home prior to arriving for the classroom-based training. Self-study materials can be downloaded from this course page following your registration for an Academy offering. Links to the materials will also be emailed to you.
PHASE 2: Classroom-Based Course – This is 4.5 days of in-person training with PASEO instructors: Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-5:00pm; Friday: 8:00am-12:00pm. A light breakfast and a lunch are provided each day of training (please alert us to any dietary restrictions you may have).
Once you register for the Precertification Academy here, you will be able to download the following six PDF documents: (1) Precertification Academy User Guide; (2) Academy Orientation Self-Study Guide; (3) Academy Orientation Workbook; (4) Academy Orientation Resource Book; (5) the Academy Orientation Answer Keys; and (6) an Affirmation of Self-Directed Study. You can navigate within each PDF file by opening the Bookmarks Tabs and jumping to the desired Chapter or Resource Document.
Be sure to READ THE USER GUIDE to help you prepare for the Precertification Academy and to complete the Self-Study Orientation portion of your training. Once you have completed the self-study portion, please print & sign the Affirmation of Self-Directed Study document attesting to the fact that you completed the Orientation materials. Bring this signed Affirmation Form with you to the first day of classroom instruction.
You will be provided with additional hardcopy classroom materials when you arrive for the in-person training. In the meantime, PASEO will also email you electronic copies of those resources so that you can keep them as a reference. Expect those materials to be emailed to you approximately one week prior to your classroom date.
Be sure that you separately register for the SEO Exam on the Clean Water Academy website. The SEO Precertification Academy registration DOES NOT automatically register you for the Exam. PASEO attempts to coordinate with the Certification Board to co-schedule the Exam on the last day of the Academy (Friday afternoon). But you must register for the Exam in your Clean Water Academy account if you wish to take the certification test.
Refund Policy: If you must cancel your Academy registration, notify PASEO at admin@pa-seo.org. For cancellations made prior to the registration deadline, you will receive a full refund (minus $50 administrative fee). For cancellations occurring after the registration deadline up until the Academy start date, you can choose between receiving a 50% refund or a full credit to attend a different PASEO Academy (held within twelve months). No refunds are offered after the Academy start date.
